We are thrilled to announce Wren as our first charity partner!
Selecting a charity partner
The xCarbon Project is committed to making a real difference in the fight against climate change, which means it’s crucial to pick the right charity partner. We were looking for one that checked multiple boxes:
- Thoughtfulness: A charity that thoroughly considers its processes to ensure maximum environmental impact per donation without compromise.
- Lean Operations: If we’re trying to offset carbon dioxide, a bloated charity with outdated practices won’t do. We need a lightweight, forward-thinking organization.
- Accountability: It’s critical to the xCarbon community, and to our future token partners, to have transparency into the effect of our donations, so we can share our success stories and grow our community.
- Scalability: A charity with multiple outlets for donations so we can spread our impact across all sectors of the fight against carbon dioxide emissions.
When considering all of these needs, Wren emerged as the clear choice.
About Wren
When we were first researching Wren, we were blown away by the alignment of our organizations’ goals. Wren has enacted a legally-binding charter which states:
- Our mission is to help reverse the climate crisis, and we will focus on that mission above all else.
- We will be radically transparent. We share everything: from the CEO’s pay, to the coordinates of every grove of trees we plant.
- We will rigorously evaluate our effectiveness. We think deeply about potential negative externalities and our holistic impact.
- We will be a role model for how modern corporations should act. From paying our fair share of taxes, to respective our members’ data privacy, we’ll do what’s best for you and the planet.
Wren is a benefit-corporation, which gives them the advantages of a profit-seeking entity, like cost-minimization and scalability from outside investment, while remaining completely focused on their charitable mission. Importantly, they will have the resources to grow with us as we scale the xCarbon community with token partnerships. And their thoroughly-vetted range of charities will allow The xCarbon Project to spread its impact across multiple sectors and continents in the fight against Carbon Dioxide emissions.
How our partnership will work
As you know, XCARBON routes 2% of its transaction fees into a wallet to be donated to emission-fighting charities. That money will go directly to Wren, who will then distribute it to the charities they work with.
Speaking of their partner charities, we had an excellent conversation with one of them: TIST. They’re a brilliant charity that focuses on teaching people to plant and maintain their own groves of trees, and incentivizing them to do so through financial and community support. Our plan is to focus our early donations directly on their efforts.
Wren will send us monthly hard data, stories, and imagery showcasing our donations’ impact, which we will share with the xCarbon community, as well as with our token partners for them to share with theirs. It’s important for xCarbon to be able to support its token partners, and nothing will be more crucial to helping our partners share their own xCarbon success than these vibrant reports from Wren. The success of any token partner is the success of all!
Conclusions
By partnering with Wren, The xCarbon Project can take advantage of its vetted list of excellent charities to ensure that our donations have the maximum possible impact. We will use their excellent monthly reporting to grow the xCarbon community, and pass along to our token partners so they can grow theirs, all working together to help transform cyrpto for a carbon-negative future.
